An ice antenna is receives local radio

Non Linear Narratives: Tech Week

weathering /ˈwɛð(ə)rɪŋ/
The process of wearing or being worn by long exposure to the atmosphere.
(Oxford English Dictionary 2023)

Over two intensive days we worked with students from the Non Linear Narrative Master programme. Organised into two groups, we built antennas made of ice, outsized tree branches and our bodies. We felt out the spatial dimensions of radio through live performance, and coded interfaces that became ‘seams’ between the open-weather Public Archive and its readers.

The workshop was held in the Hague during the sub zero temperatures of an ‘Arctic blast’ and an atmosphere of political protest in response to the nearby International Court of Justice hearing of South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.

The workshop was developed and delivered in collaboration with Lizzie Malcolm of Rectangle (interfaces group lead) and Matthias Hurtle (antennas group lead). Thank you to Rectangle for extending their initial invitation to us.
